When your flight lands in Cusco’s Velasco Astete Airport, we will be waiting for you outside to welcome you and transfer you to your chosen hotel. You will receive the explanation of your entire trip, the tickets/entrances of your contracted services, and the necessary information for your stay in Cusco Peru.
You will have the morning free to rest, shop, or do any other personal activities. At 1:00 pm we will meet you in your hotel lobby and commence our tour starting with the Main Plaza of Cusco, also known as Plaza de Armas. Here in this plaza we will also visit the Main Cathedral of Cusco still maintained since the Spanish conquest. We then head to the Qoricancha Museum (Temple of the Sun). This museum was an important place of worship to the Sun God for the Incas. When the Spaniards entered the city they ordered to paint all the walls with religious motifs to hide any Inca designs. You will enjoy the great history described in this place by your expert Tour Leader. After Qoricancha we head to the 4 most important Archaeological sites within the city of Cusco:
Sacsayhuaman: Site of mysterious stone monuments weighing as much as 200 tons! This tremendous site is a fortress in the Inca capital of Cusco. After viewing all the stone structures you will appreciate the strength of this grandiose place.
Tambomachay: Temple of the water. You will observe great structures composed of aqueducts, channels, and several waterfalls.
Puca Pucara: Military construction site.
Kenko: Mother Earth Temple.
Your Tour Leader gives you a thorough explanation of all the sites you visit. They also answer any questions you may have. After visiting all the sites, you go back to your hotel at approximately 6 pm. You will have a pre-departure briefing for the Sacred Valley Tour the next day.
Sacred Valley Tour begins at 8:00 am. We will pick you up from your hotel lobby in our private transportation and begin the tour. The Sacred Valley of the Incas is one of the main production points for the richness of the Inca lands. It is also the place where the best grain of maize is produced in all of Peru. You’ll pass different communities until you reach Awanakancha stop. There will be an exposition of llamas, alpacas, and vicunas in their natural habitat. Afterward, you’ll head over to the Archaeological Center of Pisaq. Composed of Inca terraces and Inca architectural structures scattered on slopes. You’ll also visit Pisaq’s main plaza where they sell handmade handicrafts such as woven textiles, jewelry, musical instruments, souvenirs, and much more.
A one hour drive in your private transportation will take you to the town of Urubamba. Here you have a buffet-style lunch of Andean food. We then continue our tour to the citadel of Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo, known for its Inca architecture and design, is also the cultural patrimony of Peru. We immerse in countless stories and history of Inca times. Our last stop is in a small town called Chinchero. This small town is the city of Rainbow.
Chinchero is purely an Inca city that the conquistadors wanted to “civilize” to establish their culture, but never fully achieved to do so. In Chinchero, the past persists stubbornly as if the spirit of an Ancient culture clings and refuses to disappear. You observe firsthand how native people to this day continue to dye their textiles like their Inca ancestors. After various pictures and a wealth of new knowledge, you head back to Cusco city. Drop off is at your hotel around 6:30 pm. This concludes your tour.
You will have a pre-departure briefing for your 5D/4N Salkantay Trek at this time
We’ll pick you up at 5:00 am from your hotel and travel by bus for 3 hours to Soraypampa. After a short breakfast, we’ll hike the Salkantay Trek Adventure Machu Picchu to Humantay Lake. This is a site that most companies skip, but we believe this mystical lake is too beautiful to be overlooked. You will see for yourself the enchantment of this lake. From here, we descend back to Soraypampa and have lunch. We continue our trip for another 2 ½ to 3 hours towards Suyrococha campsite. As soon as you arrive your campsite will be set up by your chaskis in advance. You’ll have hot drinks and dinner. You will have a good night’s rest at the bottom of the Salkantay glacier. Be prepared for the second day.

There you will be served lunch. Once your energies are recharged, you will continue your hike for 3 more hours to Aguas Calientes where you will spend the night. Enjoy a nice warm shower and prepare to visit the Lost City of the Incas the next day.
To avoid large lines and crowds we highly suggest you have a very early breakfast (5:00 am) at your hotel before taking the earliest bus to Machupicchu. We recommend everyone try and be the first ones in line because it fills up incredibly quickly. Enjoy the first view of Machupicchu and the sunrise (depending on the weather). Your tour leader will guide you throughout this magnificent site for about 3 hours. Afterward, you will have your own free time to explore this citadel and take numerous photos.
If you book well in advance and have a Huayna Picchu or Machupicchu Mountain ticket, your tour leader will take you to the main entrance where you can explore these sites on your own. Not everyone explores these sites, if interested be sure to mention this when you book your trip. If you choose to not purchase these extra sites, the Inca Bridge or Sun gate are free options located within Machupicchu. Be sure to return to Aguas Calientes on time to board your train. Your tour leader will specify the time after your guided tour. The train ride back to Ollantaytambo is approximately 2 hours followed by a 2-hour drive to Cusco. We will drop you off at your respective hotels in Cusco.
If you wish to stay an extra night in Aguas Calientes let us know when booking your tour. We will organize your transportation back to Cusco. If you decide to change your train ticket or hotel stay at the last minute, Tour Leaders Peru does NOT cover any price change or transportation back to Cusco.
