What is not Allowed in Machu Picchu?
Backpack
1. Backpacks larger than 40x35x20 cm (15.7x13.7x7.8 inches) are not allowed. If you bring one, it must be stored in a locker for an additional fee.
- Carrying food or kitchenware outside the backpack is prohibited.
- Entry is denied to those under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Possession of alcoholic beverages or illegal substances is strictly forbidden.
Umbrellas
2. Use of umbrellas and similar items (consider a waterproof coat, sun hat, or dark glasses based on the weather);
- Tripods
- Selfie sticks, and related accessories.
Pets
3. Animals of any kind (except guide dogs for the visually impaired) are prohibited.
- Aerosols are not allowed.
- Using cell phones in narrow sections is not permitted as it causes congestion.
- Please use them in wider areas.
- All types of musical devices and sources of noise pollution are also banned.
High-Heeled Shoes
4. Entering with high-heeled shoes or any footwear lacking a soft sole is prohibited.
- Baby carriages are also not allowed.
Weapons
5. Knives and similar weapons are prohibited. These are among the many items that have no permitted activities within the sacred site.
- Additionally, billboards used for advertising or activism are not allowed.
- Noise-making, shouting, and participating in rallies or protests are also forbidden.
Damage and Destruction:

8. Smoking or using e-cigarettes, lighting any type of fire, and disposing of garbage improperly (please bring small plastic bags) are strictly prohibited.
Additionally, selling products and feeding animals in or around the site are not allowed.

9. Commercial filming or photography, as well as shoots in hazardous locations, are prohibited.

- Drones, or similar aerial devices over Machu Picchu are not allowed and fall under no permitted activities.
Unpermitted Events:
10 Fashion shows, dances, ceremonies, social engagements, or any activity not related to the historical and cultural significance of Machu Picchu are prohibited.
