ITINERARY

Machu Picchu Tours & Trips | The Best of Peru 7 Days is one of Lima and Cusco’s best travel bargains! Both Lima and Cusco are rich in culture, Gastronomy, and history. You’ll discover and explore daily half-day to full-day tours. This is once you are going to acclimatize to the altitude.

From Cusco, travel through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here, you’ll visit Pisac Market, an ideal place to purchase an authentic souvenir or two, and a photographer’s dream. Visit the Inca Fortress town of Ollantaytambo, before going on to the famous Machu Picchu citadel.

Day 1: Arrival and Experience The Best of Lima

Welcome to Lima! Peru’s largest city and central metropolitan hub. After you have rested for a few hours after your flight you will go on the Lima City tour where you will see many of Lima’s main attractions.

At night, enjoy Peru’s delicious food and see why Peru is one of the world’s top culinary destinations. A live dance show during dinner showcases the diverse mix of cultures within Peru – European, Afro-Peruvian, and Asian.

Lima is a dynamic and exciting city to explore next to the breezy Pacific Ocean.

Day 2: Lima Explore

As a welcome to the capital of Peru, we include in this tour the Peruvian Experience attraction which includes an interactive, cultural, and gastronomic guided tour. You will learn about Peru’s history in a very interactive and enjoyable manner.

Suggested activities include:

Explore the historic center of Lima, a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with fascinating Spanish architecture. Start with a scenic tour of the colonial downtown, which emanates from the main square. Stroll over to the 16th-century Cathedral, which took 80 years to construct and was built in the grandiose style of the Spanish Empire.

Visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted by chief conquistador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains, in 1535. This is the only house from that era that still belongs to the same family.

Stroll around the Pueblo Libre district to the privately owned Larco Museum of pre-Columbian art, housed in a beautifully restored viceregal mansion built over a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid. The museum boasts a vast pre-Colonial collection of gold and silver artifacts.

In the evening, head to the eclectic “Love Park” in the upscale coastal district of Miraflores, where you can admire a huge kissing statue and beautiful mosaic walls. The park is built on the cliffs of Chorrillos and is a perfect place to enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Pacific.

Enjoy a nightcap at an open-air cafe or restaurant in the diverse Miraflores neighborhood.

Day 3: Arrival in Cusco City Tour

This morning, transfer to the Lima airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you’ll be picked up from the airport and taken to your hotel. After getting a chance to settle in, depart your hotel for a half-day private city tour with an English-speaking guide.

It starts in the ruins of Tambomachay and you will have a nice hike down into Cusco visiting other sites along the way. You’ll also stop for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants in Cusco.

Day 4: Nature Walk With Alpacas and Llamas 1 Day Tour Chinchero

This all sounds great, but what if there was a unique way to take in this experience? Alpacas and llamas are native to the area, which makes them perfect guides to accompany you as you travel around Chinchero.

Hike alongside these majestic animals as you tour the picturesque setting in Chinchero. These are engaging and fluffy animals that can make this adventure even better for everyone on their tour. You could just have people walking alongside you, but alpacas and llamas just make everything seem better… and cuter.

Day 5: Private Tour of Machu Picchu - an unforgettable day

Rise and shine early today as you take the first train in the morning to Aguas Calientes, the small village at the base of Machu Picchu. An English-speaking guide will be waiting for you and you can either hike up (45 minutes) or take the bus (20 minutes) to Machu Picchu.

You will have a private guided tour for about 3-4 hrs. Here is where you can get in some good hiking. It’s a strenuous hike, but you’ll be well rewarded. In the evening, you will return to Cusco by train.

DAY 6: Free and Souvenirs day in Cusco

Today, you’ll have another free day to explore Cusco and do some last-minute shopping. It’s also another chance to enjoy some of the fantastic restaurants Cusco has to offer.

If you would like to arrange another half-day or full-day activity in or around Cusco, we’d be happy to arrange this. There are also cooking classes in Cusco, for those who would like to learn how to make some local Peruvian dishes.

Day 7: Last Day Departure

Depending on when your flight is out of Cusco, we can suggest some places to sightsee in the morning before providing private transportation to the airport.

OTHER PERU TREKS

How Many Days Do You Need in Order to Hike In Peru

The Classic Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu is one of the most popular combined routes. Each route varies in length from one to fourteen days, depending on the demand and availability of lodging along the way. All four journeys are one-way trips. You will generally travel back to Cusco using a combination of public and private transportation, depending on which tour company you use to make your trip reservations.

The One-Day Inca Trail Hike (1-day trek)

You can see Machu Picchu in one day if you’re short on time (but be prepared to wake up early!). You’ll take the train from Cusco to Kilometer 104, which is a location on the trail. Then, you’ll hike around 15 kilometers (9 miles) through the Sun Gate until you reach the Machu Picchu sanctuary. This option is great if you want to view Machu Picchu and experience a small section of the Inca Trail trek all at once.

The Lares Trek (3-day trek)

The Lares Trek, also known as the cultural alternative to the Inca Trail, is a three-day journey into the historical weaver communities on the eastern slopes of Machu Picchu. But don’t expect it to be a trip to the museum.

To glimpse into time-honored villages, you must earn access by obtaining passes that soar to over 15,000 feet and zigzag across Pumahuanca’s peak. On day four of your Lares trek, you may add another stop at Machu Picchu ruins.

Vilcabamba Traverse Route (1 – 2 week trek)

The trek to Machu Picchu is not for the faint of heart. At 65 kilometers long, this is regarded as one of the most difficult ways to see Machu Picchu. The route starts in Cachora and winds a mile-deep canyon to Choquequirao, or “Cradle of Gold.” The Vilcabamba Trail follows the same route that Hiram Bingham took when he rediscovered Machu Picchu in 1911, albeit via more isolated towns.

The Salkantay Route (1 – 2 week trek)

The Salkantay Trek is the only Inca Trail option that lets you sleep in a comfy bed and take a hot shower at the end of every day’s hike! Though it still requires reasonably fit participants, The Lodge Trek runs along the Salkantay Trail through the Cordillera Vilcabamba mountain range but permits nightly rest at fully serviced lodges placed along the route. Machu Picchu is reached by following the trail to an elevation of 15,000 feet.

The Classic Inca Trail Route (3 – 5 day trek)

The Classic Inca Trail Hike is the most popular trek of the four alternatives described in this piece. It begins at kilometer 82 along the route, at the village of Piscacucho. The first day is a moderate hike through the Andean foothills, crossing the Urubamba River and arriving at your campsite in Huayllabamba. On the second day, you’ll ascend what’s known as “Dead Woman’s Pass,” which is the highest point of the Inca Trail Elevation at 4200 meters (13,776 feet). After that, it’s all downhill to the Pacaymayo River campsite.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

This alternative Ancascocha trip is perfect for those who want a light/moderate/challenging adventure and like to explore new things. Travelers should be in good shape since you’ll be hiking for long periods of time.
